Members of the public are invited to meet with the expert appointed by the Minister for Water to conduct an independent review of water quality management in the Vasse-Wonnerup and Geographe Bay catchment.
The Department of Water and GeoCatch will host a meeting with Emeritus Professor Barry Hart on Thursday 14 November from 6.30-8.30 pm in Busselton.
Department of Water Executive Director Regional Delivery and
Regulation Paul Brown said the meeting was an opportunity for community
groups and individuals interested in contributing to the review to meet
"Professor Hart has established an international reputation in the fields of water quality and catchment management," Mr Brown said.
"He is well known for his sustained efforts in developing decision making processes in natural resource management in Australia and south-east Asia.
"As a board member of the independent authority responsible for the development and implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, he has helped oversee the development of a catchment management plan balancing environmental, economic and social considerations across four states and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
Mr Brown said the public meeting was part of Professor Hart's consultations in Busselton and Perth that also include meetings with state agencies, local government and NRM groups.
"When his consultation process is complete, Professor Hart will prepare a draft review paper aimed at presenting possible options for new and clearer management arrangements for the area.
"The draft review will be made available to the public including through another public meeting."
