Finalists announced for the 2008 Water Awards

Twenty-six finalists have been named across 13 categories in the upcoming 2008 Water Awards.
The Water Awards are a joint initiative between the Department of Water and the Water Corporation recognising excellence and innovation in water conservation and efficiency.
"The Water Awards recognise those individuals, schools, organisations and businesses who are leading the way in water resource management and outstanding water saving initiatives," Department of Water Director General Kim Taylor said.
"There has been a lot of interest in the 2008 awards with more than 90 entries, many setting new benchmarks in water conservation and efficiency."
This year the categories include:
- Waterwise Plumber
- Waterwise Garden Irrigator
- Waterwise Landscaper
- Waterwise Garden Centre
- Waterwise Land Development
- Waterwise Business and Government Agency
- Waterwise School
- Local Government
- Management of Water Resources
- Water Conservation and Efficiency
- Water Recycling
- Water Innovation
Water Corporation Chief Executive Officer Jim Gill said that the Water Awards showcased excellence in water conservation and efficiency across all sectors.
"It is encouraging to see that Western Australians truly understand the critical need to conserve our water resources because initiatives such as those employed by the finalists play a vital role in ensuring a sustainable water future for the next generation," Dr Gill said.
"Recognising those who understand the value of our water resources and are working hard to make a difference is very important because their efforts play a key role in creating a sustainable water future for this state."
The 2008 Water Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on October 24 at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. The 2008 Water Award finalists are:
