Goldfields

The Goldfields Region includes the eastern Goldfields area to the border with South Austalia and from the south Coast to the southern border of the Pilbara Region.

It is a Region with large mining operations, which utilise local saline water resources for mineral processing. Local fresh groundwater resources also provide drinking water to significant communities such as Laverton and Leonora. Remote indigeneous communities also rely on local groundwater for their water supplies.

At this point the Department of Water does not have offices located within the Goldfields Region.

The work of the Department for the Goldfields Region includes:

  • water quantity management, including licensing and compliance enforcement
  • integrating water management into land-use planning
  • drinking water source protection.

The majority of the Department's work in the Goldfields is managed by our Swan Avon Region, with the exception of the Shire of Dundas area, which is managed out of our South Coast Region.
