Meeting demand
The department is working hard to manage water supplies sustainably and cater for the state's growing population and expanding industries. We use water licensing data and economic and population growth forecasts to highlight potential gaps between existing water supplies and estimated future demand.
Water resource investigations help us identify potential future supply options and we work with other government agencies on programs such as Water for Food to develop new irrigation areas and increase the size and productivity of existing irrigation districts.
We are planning ahead to ensure the state's future water needs can be managed and met, and that timely decisions on supply options can be made to support population and economic growth.
