Pollution response expert Ken Raine of Hillarys was named as a recipient of an Australian Day Achievement Medallion as part of an Australia-wide recognition of the contribution of public servants to the nation.
Australia Day achievement medallion recipients are selected by their employer as part of a national program run by the Australia Day Council.
Mr Raine was awarded the medallion at a ceremony at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation in Perth for his achievements as a pollution response expert for the State Government.
Presenting the medallion Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Director General Mike Rowe acknowledged Mr Raine as a leader in his field.
“Mr Raine has made a significant contribution to protecting the environment and human health from pollution incidents and emergencies,” he said.
“He established the Pollution Response Unit in the Department of Environment 15 years ago and has successfully led that Unit across successive State Government agencies to be recognised as a leader in Australia in pollution response.
“Through his leadership there have been significant achievements and improvements in environmental protection in Western Australia including the Pollution Watch Hotline and after-hours response teams to receive and manage calls from across the State.”
The Australia Day achievement medallion is part of a nationally recognised process run by the Australia Day Council in which public sector organisations recognise the outstanding contributions and performance of their staff. For more information go to www.australiaday.org.au.
