Nominations open for Carnarvon Water Allocation Advisory Committee positions

Nominations are now open for local growers to fill representative positions on the Carnarvon Water Allocation Advisory Committee.
The term of the current committee expires in June 2015 and the Department of Water is calling for nominations to fill five positions as representatives of Carnarvon horticultural growers.
Department of Water Mid West Gascoyne Region Manager Darryl Abbott said the committee plays an important role in advising the government on water management within the Lower Gascoyne River.
"The committee's role is to provide advice in regard to groundwater management and allocation planning within the Carnarvon irrigation area," Mr Abbott said.
"This advice assists the department in managing the area's water through the Lower Gascoyne water allocation plan, as well as providing grower level guidance on local licensing issues."
Mr Abbott said local grower members play an important role on the committee as the conduit to ensure the department is aware of the growing community's views on water resource issues.
"Among their other duties, the members provide an avenue for the community to understand and input to local water resource management issues."
Mr Abbott thanked the current committee members for their contributions over the last three years.
"Outgoing grower representatives Terry Fitzgerald, Gary Gibson, Robyn Bumbak, John Thomas and Al Holtham have freely given their time and experience, which the department greatly appreciates."
Nomination forms are available from the Department of Water Carnarvon office and must be submitted by Monday 18 May.
