Animals plants and algae

Our rivers and estuaries support diverse ecosystems with many different types of animals, plants and algae present.

These range from iconic fish such as barramundi and mulloway to tiny, single celled algae. Human impact on our waterways can affect the types and abundance of animals, plants and algae present. By studying these, we can learn a lot about how these systems function and what condition they are in.
