Logue Brook dam

The Hon. Colin Barnett MLA advised that he would re-open Logue Brook Dam to recreation. The new coalition government has been acting to deliver this election commitment through the necessary legislative procedures and on 3 December 2008 Logue Brook Dam was reopened to water skiers.

De-proclamation of Logue Brook Dam means recreation can occur before the 2008 Christmas school holiday period, and the issue of 'dual use' (where recreation and drinking water supply occur together) will be able to be fully considered as a separate issue by government.

Recreation opportunities in the Perth Hills and South West of Western Australia are summarised in the recreation and facilities guide table. More detail on these recreation sites is available from the 2004 Protecting our drinking water catchments map produced by the Department of Land Information for the Water Corporation and Department of Water. The Department of Environment and Conservations booklet, National, marine and regional parks in WA - a visitors guide to the state, is another useful reference for recreation in Western Australia.

Recreation management of the dam will again be subject to legislation and policy from the departments of Environment and Conservation, Fisheries and Planning and Infrastructure.
