South West regional plan

The South West regional water plan is the first regional plan to be developed under the State water plan 2007. The plan provides a strategic vision and action plan for the long term sustainable management of the region's water resources and water services.

The purpose of the plan is:

  • to assess the current state of water-resource management in the South West
  • to identify regional trends and factors that will influence water management in the coming years
  • to assess current and future water availability and demand at a regional scale
  • to engage with the community on regional water management priorities
  • to communicate state government priorities for water resource management
  • to set a vision for water policy, planning and management in the region
  • to determine priority actions to support water policy and plan implementation and improved water-resource management in the South West.

The draft plan was developed through consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, primarily through the South West water forum, sector based consultative groups and an Aboriginal consultative process.

The draft plan in the form of a 'Strategic directions' document and a 'Supporting detail document was released for public comment in June 2008. The public comment period has now closed. Public submissions are currently being reviewed and a statement of response will be prepared.
