The DVD, Parkinsonia (wmv 66Mb), was filmed and produced by the Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation as a training tool for the management of parkinsonia aculeate infestation on the Fortescue River. The Department of Water has been working with the nearby Ngurrawaana community to control the introduced species in this culturally sensitive area.
The DVD includes some cultural history and stories of the Yindjibarndi people, the traditional owners of the land. Although much of the information is specific to the project area there is general information about parkinsonia, including what it looks like, how it grows, where you would expect to find it and how it can be treated.
The DVD is a useful tool for anyone getting involved in parkinsonia control, while also providing stories and pictures of some culturally significant and beautiful Pilbara country.
