Our role
The operations of the Mid West Gascoyne are coordinated two offices, one located in Geraldton and the other in Carnarvon. The region is 29,000 square kilometres and covers from Dongara in the south and Exmouth in the north and inland to Meekatharra. A Staff of 22 delivers services covering the following areas:
- land use planning/assessment
- waterways protection and restoration;
- groundwater allocation and protection (including water source protection)
- water flow measurement and flood warning and
- water quality monitoring
Key functions for 2008/2009
- Support the development of Midwest Iron Ore Industry and Oakajee Port Development.
- Release and implementation of the Northern Perth Basin Water Allocation Plans
- Implementation of Water Source protection Plans across the Region
- Begin review of the Groundwater Resources Strategy "Managing Groundwater Resources of the Lower Gascoyne River", WA (2004)
- Rehabilitation of the Carnarvon Artesian Basin
- Progress the Gascoyne Foodbowl Initiative
- Assist expansion of Carnarvon Horticultural District
- Assist in the use of Carnarvon Artesian Basin for pastoral diversification
- Pilot Project - Carnarvon Water Accounting
- Trial water meter technology on the Carnarvon Horticultural District and pastoral areas
- Rehabilitation of the Carnarvon Artesian Basin.
- Pilot Project - Carnarvon Water Accounting.
- Delivery agent for the replacement of the Gascoyne irrigation pipe project

- Fit for purpose: managing availability of water resources for proposed activities.
- Increasing knowledge and monitoring networks within groundwater areas.
- Increasing awareness and understanding of the groundwater allocation licensing system in the region.
- Promoting water efficiencies throughout DOW businesses.
- Highly requested aquifers in the NPB.
- Review of Water Resources Advisory Committees in the region.
