The Department of Water has completed a program of investigating priority water resources part funded by the Australian Government's $12.9 billion Water for the Future initiative. There were four major project regions and all of which have contributed to increasing our understanding of the water resources and will help us to manage them through future water management planning.
The four projects areas were:
What did the projects involve?
The projects involved detailed investigations and assessments of the groundwater and/or surface water-systems, and identification of social, cultural and environmental water requirements.
What were the outcomes of the projects?
The projects provided new and improved information about these resources, including the amount of water required to protect the environment. This will now help us to determine new abstraction limits and develop new water management plans for the future. These plans will help secure water for the state, in line with the requirements of the National Water Initiative.
