Meter installation process

1. Department officer contacts affected licensee to arrange a suitable time to meet and explain the metering project, negotiate access arrangements, record existing bore / well details and carry out a water usage survey. The information is then provided to the relevant meter installation contractor.

2. Meter installation contractor then contacts licensee to discuss irrigation schedules, measure pipe-work from the bore / well and prepare a design of the proposed re-configuration of pipe-work to accommodate the meter.

3. The design is shown to the licensee before the meter is installed. If the licensee is satisfied with the proposed design, then the licensee and the contractor sign a Pre-Construction Report (PCR) form.

4. Once the Department has authorised the PCR, the contractor will arrange a convenient time with the licensee / landowner to fit the meter. For comparison purposes, pressure testing of the irrigation system will be undertaken before and after the meter is fitted. If the licensee is satisfied with the workmanship, then the contractor and licensee sign a Completed Construction Report (CCR) form.

Please note: While the Department does its best to keep our contact details up-to-date, not all licensees can be contacted. If you wish to make an appointment with one of our officers for the initial site visit, please phone 1800 623 983 or send an email to metering@water.wa.gov.au.
