Dry season response

Dry season response 2010-11

The western and southern part of WA has had the driest winter on record.

The low rainfall has implications for everyone, and in particular, agriculture and other water using businesses, parks and gardens, rivers, estuaries and the environment.

The Department of Water is taking a proactive approach in responding to the dry season.

The department is acting now to minimise impacts this summer and next year as much as possible, and is a leader in a whole of government approach to sensibly managing the state's water resources.

If the 2011 winter rainfall is similar to this year's, in the summer of 2011-12 there will be serious implications for outdoor water use, industry and agriculture, self supply users, and the environment.

Everyone shares responsibility for minimising water use and preparing for impacts now and in the future.

The department will keep agencies, the community and our stakeholders informed of implications and responses throughout the dry period.

For any dry season queries call our Dry Season Response line on 1800 464 956 (non-media calls only).
