The Department of Water and the Leschenault Catchment Council have teamed up for the annual clean up around the Leschenault Inlet on Tuesday December 2.
The department's South West Regional Manager Wayne Tingey said that in previous years shopping trolleys, broken bicycles, car tyres and signs had all been pulled out of the inlet waterway.
"Last year, in just a few hours we collected over 20 huge bags of rubbish," Mr Tingey said.
"The clean up not only removes dangerous obstacles, it also improves the attractiveness of the inlet for local residents and visitors who enjoy the area for leisure and aquatic activities.
"The Department of Water and the Leschenault Catchment Council consider the clean up exercise to be a worthwhile community service for local residents.
"I am sure the wildlife and, in particular, the wading birds also greatly appreciate our efforts."
Mr Tingey said the Leschenault Inlet was a conservation category wetland and highly valued for its remnant vegetation population of the grey mangrove.
"This is the most southern and most isolated population of mangrove in Western Australia and provides Bunbury with another special attraction," he said.
