Winter trial sprinkler ban comes into effect today

July 01, 2009

A trial winter sprinkler ban comes into effect today and will be jointly managed by the department and the Water Corporation.

Water Corporation scheme water areas which come under the ban are those on the existing two- day a week rostering system (Stage 4 restrictions). The ban also includes all water service providers in the southern half of the state.

The trial will also include residential garden bores subject to the three day watering roster and groundwater licensees such as local government, the Education Department, Main Roads and Sport and Recreation.

Director Water Resource Use Rob Hammond said that it was time that such a ban was trialled so that it could be considered for winter 2010.
