In the Perth metropolitan area local governments use around 50 gigalitres of groundwater each year, particularly for the watering of public open spaces. The Department of Water is helping local governments reduce water consumption and improve local water quality through the continued funding of the WA Water CampaignTM provided by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability Oceania. This performance-based milestone program provides a framework aimed to motivate local government to work toward the sustainable management of our water resources.
The program builds the capacity of councils to take action in addressing water quality and water conservation within their own corporate operations and within their communities.
