The department's responsibilities include protecting water quality, preparing policies and plans critical to the state's future development, analysis of water resources information, issuing licenses and regulating water use.
Using sound scientific evidence, the department also provides comprehensive information to industry and expert technical support and guidance to government on the status of water and the viability of new source development.
The department is also responsible for the quantity, quality, use and availability of the state's water resources and ensures that all Western Australians have access to water services.
We also develop policies and processes to ensure sustainable water services are delivered to both the private and public sectors.
